Rural Income ProtectionRural Income Protection is designed specifically for farmers. It provides a regular income to you should you suffer a sickness or injury that prevents you from working. There are other benefits to take care of those unforeseen extras including hospitalization, rehabilitation and getting home from overseas. Rural Income Protection can help make sure your bills can be paid, and your current standard of living isn’t compromised while you get back on your feet. Benefits
Total disability benefit
If, due to injury or sickness: • you are unable to perform your normal farming duties (for the first two years of any period of disability); and • are unable to perform any gainful occupation for which you are reasonably fitted by education, training or experience (for the remainder of the period of disability); and • are not engaged in any gainful employment; and • are under the continuous direction and professional care of a Medical Practitioner, we'll pay you up to 30% of your annual gross farm income (less other benefits such as ACC, Sickness Benefit and benefits from other income protection plans), to a maximum of $1,250 a week. The Agreed Value sum insured is assessed at the time of application – financial information is required at this stage.
Partial Disability Benefit
As your health improves, you may be able to return to farming but are unable to perform at least 25% of you pre-disability farming duties, or return to work other than farming, and your income is less than 75% of the Amount of Benefit we will (subject to certain criteria and after taking into account other benefits such as ACC, sickness benefit and benefits from other income protection plans), pay you 25% of your Total Disability Benefit, while you are partially Disabled, for up to 12 months, provided your period of Total Disability exceeds the Qualifying Period.
Recurring Disability Benefit
If you start to recover from your disability but then suffer a relapse, we’ll recommence payment of your Total Disability Benefit without a Qualifying Period. To receive this benefit you must become Totally Disabled again solely from the same or a related cause, within 52 weeks of returning to work in a full capacity. Any benefit payable will be treated as an extension of the original claim and limited to the Benefit Period. |
