Mark Jones

Director
Principal Adviser

I started working in the family business in 1999, after working as an assistant winemaker, bar tender, cellar master and a tennis coach. When Hallam passed away in 2007, I stepped up as principal of the company.

My wife, Debbie, and our four children, Joe, Anna, Thomas and Matthew, enjoy getting out into the natural outdoors of New Zealand by going hunting, fishing, diving and tramping. I also enjoy growing roses and as many veggies as I can.

Interests in the early days included riding horses, overseas travel, badminton and tennis.

With family came tennis, fishing, boating, camping, tramping... and following the children in their respective sports of swimming, netball, hockey, soccer, rugby and tennis.

Nowadays it is all about family, travelling to visit children and grandchildren overseas, as well as business activities and keeping up with friends and clients.

I have lived in Rotorua all my life and enjoy meeting people.

Member of Spectrum Club (ladies club) since 1981 and secretary for three years. Coached at Swimming Club for 12 years and taught babies Learn to Swim (0 to 5 years) for three years.

Michael Dent

Financial Advisor

I grew up in a farming community in the Mid North where I learnt not only the value of a good work ethic but also to have a pragmatic view on what was going on around me. After finishing a 12 month return of service to the electrical contracting company that I did my apprenticeship with, I set off to see the world, starting with NZ.

After a short period in Tauranga, I travelled to Rotorua where I put down roots and have lived since. After a variety of employment, my wife Cathy and I started our own business and 24yrs later, I decided that a career change was in order.

I am now a qualified Financial Adviser and provide Insurance, KiwiSaver and Asset Finance advice for Hallam Jones Insurance & Superannuation Ltd. I also work with our associated company, Mortgagelink Rotorua, where I provide lending advise.

Compliance Office
Administrator

I have been working with Financial Advisers for over 7 years and working in customer service roles for even longer!

After studying for a Diploma in Business Management from NMIT, I moved from my hometown in Blenheim to Wellington with my husband and started my career in the financial advice area, working with advisers there for three years before moving to Rotorua.

We came to Rotorua to be closer to our families and I joined the team at Hallam Jones. Here I’ve had the opportunity to get further training in AML/CFT and Compliance and now I use my qualifications, training, and experience, to offer support to the business and our advisers, helping insure we provide the best service possible to our clients.

My husband and I now have a son and our family delight in taking advantage of Rotorua’s Redwoods and Lakes for meandering walks. On rainy days we’re learning to bake together and indulge in a good book or board game.

As a long time “blue collar” worker I have only recently joined the team at Hallam Jones.
I am enjoying the new challenges and the change of pace while learning all about the financial sector through our focuses on Insurance and Investments amongst other things.

During off hours I and my wife (and co-worker / Boss) Rebecca spend the days chasing a three year old about and visiting family.

As far as interests outside family and work go I tend to think outside the box.
I am learning the fine art of book binding and upgrading my library as I go.
I am also a proud member of the New Zealand Lightsaber Guild and regularly attend competitive duelling events around the country as well as local meetings twice a week where I help teach novices the art of lightsaber combat.

Perhaps one day I’ll set myself a real challenge and write and bind a book about the subject.
